ZOPO Speed 7: Speedy and Sleek
Every smartphone maker is trying their level best to capture the rapidly growling smartphone market of India. In the recent past we have seen many Chinese players launching countless smartphones which are loaded with good hardware and come with surprisingly low price tags. While big names like Xiaomi and Huawei are stealing most of the headlines, there is new player in the town, Zopo, which is now staking a claim for a share of the market, following the tried and tested "great specs at great prices" formula. The latest of its devices is the Zopo Speed 7. Let's see how it fares against its competitors.
Zopo Speed 7 has a very sleek design coupled with a decent plastic finish. Rounded edges, curved rear panel and a metal-like finish gives a premium look to the phone, although the shiny back cover is bit slippery to hold. The smartphone has a 5-inch full HD display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution (441 ppi) which offers realistic and sharp colours. But it has broader top and bottom bezels, which makes it a bit odd as the home buttons are on the screen and the space could have been better utilized. But overall, the phone is very comfortable to use with just one hand. Under the rear plastic panel, there is a removable battery coupled with two micro SIM card slots and one micro SD card slot. The volume rocker is located on the right side along with the power button. The 3.5 mm audio jack is located at the top of the device, while the USB port is at the base. The rear camera and the LED flash are positioned on the top center of the mobile phone.
Good spec sheet, decent performance
Performance-wise, the Speed 7 works very smoothly thanks to its good spec sheet. The MediaTek 64-bit MTK6753 Octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz coupled with 3GB of RAM gives an edge over other smartphones of the same range. The phone comes with 16GB storage of which 11.13 GB is available for the users. The storage can be expanded up to 64GB via a Micro SD card. Zopo Speed 7 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with some new features. There is a gesture control for the camera, gallery and music player and also features flip to mute, double tap to wake and onscreen gestures to unlock and lanunch apps.
The phone managed to work fine throughout the testing period, although it did heat up a little when pushed through some prolonged gaming sessions. If you are not much of a mobile gamer, you will find the Speed 7 performing very decently indeed. On the camera front, the phone comes with a 13.2 megapixel camera, which surprised us very pleasantly. It not only clicks good pictures in daylight, with crisp colors with a good white balance, but also works fine for low-light conditions, as it has options to control exposure and shutter speed. But the camera is relatively slow in focusing and shutter response department. The 5.0-megapixel camera also does good job and features Face Beauty 4.0, which is very useful for all your selfie needs.
As for the battery, the phone is loaded with 2,500 mAh battery which is removable. While there are companies which offer more battery in the same segment, the Speed 7’s performance is also not too bad. Using the phone on a day to day basis, it was able to last till the end of the day with still retainning about 10-18 percent of charge. Just steer clear of gaming. Sound quality is good too, on headphones as welll as on calls, but the rear mounted speaker could have been better.
Zopo Speed 7 can be seen as a good bargain. The phone has a sleek design, with a good display, gives a consistent performance and has a decent camera. On the flip side, it stimmers when pushed for some prolonged gaming sessions. At price of Rs 12,999 there are some good competitors who can deliver better performances like Lenovo K3 Note, Moto G Turbo Edition and the Xiaomi Mi 4i. That said, if you are looking for sleek design coupled with very smooth interface and great camera then you can consider Zopo Speed 7.
